Installer/Contractor List

The Wildfire Foundation is in the process of creating a list of wildfire prevention installers for home hardening and defensible space.

Types of Installers

There are three ways to go about complying with home-hardening and defensible space improvements:

  1. Self-install: Unless you are an avid handyman very familiar and experienced with a wide range of home maintenance and repairs, we do not recommend you do this work yourself.
  2. Handyman: If you are only doing a few small improvements, a handyman might be able to do the job, but it is important that they are familiar with the required home-hardening and defensible space code.
  3. Contractor: We recommend hiring a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor when hardening your home against wildfire and creating a defensible space around your home. Your contractor should be familiar with the necessary local building codes and compliance regulations. Certifications from Fire Agencies, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), or the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) lets you know your contractor has taken the time to learn the science behind home hardening and home ignition zones (HIZ).
